Beginner’s Mind

Beginner’s Mind and the power of Not-knowing

Welcome to my new website, and welcome to this introductory post.

When we practice mindfulness, it isn’t about what we know. Inviting awareness of all that is alive in our present moment. There is only now.  This moment.  Inviting curiosity. Open to exploration. Beginner’s mind. Not-Knowing. Being with what arises into awareness. Holding this in kindness.

Whether this is your first experience of mindfulness practice, or your thousandth, each new breath, each new sensation, each transient thought or emotion is a practice in not-knowing.

Being with what arises, we are all practitioners on the road, sharing this moment together, engaged in practice, each in our own way

Being present.

This is where our practice comes alive

Settle into stillness

In the space of not-knowing we can turn towards experience with gentle curiosity. Gaining perspective, a place to step back, settle into stillness and observe all that is alive in our thoughts, emotions, physical body, surrounding world.

Mindfulness opens awareness of habit, reflex, and patterns of reactivity.  This can be difficult, sometimes, if we don’t like what we find.  Holding the practice with kindness, compassion, care, and choice we can recognise what comes from old places, and what relates to things actually present.  With beginner’s mind we see ourselves in a new light, and we open possibility for a new way of being, and a new way of relating to self, others, and life.

Compassion, kindness, care.

Space for reflection, insight, reperceiving. Coming home to Self.

In practice, over time, noticing the mind wandering into thought for the thousandth time, gently redirecting attention back to the breath for the thousandth time, we learn to be aware of the nuances of emotions, thoughts and reactivity that drive our behaviour.  We learn to take a pause, take a breath, get grounded, and open space for all that is here, all that this offers.  With a growth mindset this offers infinite possibilities.  The power of not-knowing.

Open space for all that is here.

A useful practice while learning how to write a website 😊

Be well. Go well.
