8 week MBSR course overview

The Power of the Pause

Originally developed in the 1990’s by Jon Kabat-Zinn the 8-week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course cultivates a series of easy practices shown to improve management of stress and chronic pain, improving resilience, focus, awareness, presence and wellbeing.

What the course offers:

The course is entirely experiential, supported by brief written handouts and information.

Over the course you open space to:

  • cultivate your own knowledge of stress.
  • recognise how stress manifests in your body and behaviour.
  • manage your own self-regulation.
  • learn how to break out of old habits of stress-related behaviour and reactivity.
  • open possibilities for building a new way of relating to self, life and others.

You will be given recordings of the key guided meditations to develop your own personal home practice.

Once you have completed this 8 week course you can deepen and maintain your practice and refresh your skills in a variety of retreat days, workshops and short courses.

The shape of the 8 week MBSR course:

This is an 8 week course.

Weeks 1-3 cultivate:

  • awareness and being present,
  • choice of focus,
  • self-regulation, getting grounded and centered,
  • finding calm,
  • awareness of thoughts, emotions and physical sensations,

Weeks 4-6 apply these skills to:

  • awareness of habitual thought patterns, reactivity and behaviours.
  • cultivating a new mindful way of relating to experience, self and stress.
  • cultivating self-compassion, acceptance and care.

The day retreat gives an opportunity to take a break, a pause, an oasis in your weekend and immerse yourself in 6h of guided formal and informal practice.

Weeks 7-8 offer opportunities to:

  • consolidate and deepen your emerging skills
  • develop ways of integrating mindfulness and stress-reduction into your life
  • develop new habits for self-care and wellbeing.
